Orlando to close roadway for 3 weeks. Here are the impacted areas

Closures to start on April 8

ORLANDO, Fla. – Next week, the city of Orlando is set to close down a stretch of Robinson Street for at least three weeks while construction takes place, according to the Orlando Utilities Commission.

In a release, OUC officials announced that the construction will involve the installation of a “new underground electric transmission line” along the street from North Fern Creek Avenue to North Crystal Lake Drive/Maguire Boulevard.

In addition, the work will include the installation of new manholes.

The release says that because of the project, traffic impacts will involve the following:

  • Short, intermittent road closures might occur, though no long-term detours are expected.
  • Most transmission work will take place during normal working hours on Mondays through Saturdays.
  • No project work is expected on eastbound Robinson Street on Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. - 9 p.m.
  • No project work is expected on westbound Robinson Street on Monday through Friday from 4 - 7 p.m.
  • Several crews will be working on different sections of the road at any given time.

“Due to the nature of this work, access to residents/businesses may be affected for a brief period of time,” a flyer sent out to local businesses reads. “During this period, through traffic will be shut down, but access to parking lots in the work area will be maintained.”

Matt Duke — the co-owner of The Nook bar along Robinson Street — told News 6 that he’s concerned about losing money thanks to the road closure.

“I’m pretty terrified about that,” he said. “As a small, business, you’re always walking a line of success.”

As a result, he and other business owners believe the city should step in to help.

“We’re all in agreeance that public infrastructure is a good thing, but I do believe that there should be money set aside to help those that struggle from this,” he explained.

The road closure is scheduled to begin on Monday, April 8.
